On Saturday at 12, Missouri would take on a very formidable group of five opponent in the Louisiana Rajin’ Cajuns. Missouri would have to keep their minds settled, coming off a big win against archrival Kansas, and a big matchup against the Gamecocks next week to open SEC play.
Missouri would win the toss and select to defer, giving Louisiana the ball first. Louisiana would open with a five yard out route, but would not gain a yard, after the Mizzou defense stuffed a run at the line of scrimmage and forced an incomplete pass. Mizzou would take over at the 27.
The Missouri offense would get in a groove quickly, opening up with a four-yard completion to Kevin Coleman Jr, and a heavy dose of Ahmad Hardy, picking up 32 yards on 3 carries. A 12-yard touch pass would put Mizzou right at the red zone, barging in with a six-yard carry by Hardy. Early on, the offensive line was having its way. It would continue to have it’s way, as Hardy would run in the endzone untouched from seven yards. 7-0 Tigers.
The Tigers’ rush defense continued to dominate, with an early Josiah Trotter tackle for loss. On 3rd and 11, Louisiana would attempt a deep ball down the sidelines, but it would fall incomplete. Mizzou would get excellent field position, taking over at the 40.
After another few Ahmad Hardy runs and a chunk play to Jordon Harris, Mizzou was knocking. At the 11-yard line, a slant was completed to Marquis Johnson. Johnson would extend the ball, but seemingly fumbled. Louisiana would get a 99-yard scoop and score and on the field, it was ruled as a touchdown. However, review would go in the Tigers favor, as Johnson had firm control while he broke the plane, touchdown Missouri, making it 14-0.
Guess what? Another Louisiana three-and-out. Dreyden Norwood would make an excellent play on a screen, blowing it up and putting Louisiana at 3rd and 2, where they would only gain one yard. Missouri would take over at the 41.
Missouri made it the Kevin Coleman Jr. Drive, with a few jet sweeps and a direct snap. At the end of the quarter, Mizzou would find itself close to the red zone. A 17-yard run from Jamal Roberts would put Mizzou at the 14, where Pribula would take a QB keeper into the end zone. 21-0 Tigers.
Louisiana would drive, mainly due to a Stephen Hall DPI. He would respond with a PBU, and a Khalil Jacobs sack would ensue. Absolutely dominating defensive performance so far for the Tigers.
Hardy would continue to get love on the next drive, immediately picking up 27 yards on two carries. After an injury timeout, Pribula would find Roberts for a 39-yard TD pass, which came while Pribula was being tackled. Impressive stuff. 28-0 Tigers.
Another Louisiana drive would stall. They did pick up a first down, though! Tigers would take over at the 17. However, Pribula would throw his first interception, giving Louisiana the ball at the 22. Louisiana would get to the 17 and stall. Louisiana would get it’s first points of the day, 28-3 Tigers.
The next drive would be incredibly short, as Hardy would get a 71-yard TRD run to put the Tigers in front by 32, 35-3. Hardy had 14 carries for 164 yards.
Both tyeams on their next drives would stall out, which resulted in the first punt for Missouri.
Louisiana would then get a massive 84-yard TD run by Zylon Perry. 35-10 Tigers.
Tigers would go on a long drive to end the quarter, with more Ahmad Hardy carries. Tigers would get all the way to the goalline, but failed to convert. Robert Meyer would kick a 22-yarder, 38-10 Tigers to end the half.
Missouri would open the half with a 75-yard touchdown drive, where Ahmad Hardy would get 62 yards of that. I tweeted during this drive “Ahmad Hardy might just be Marshawn Lynch.” 45-10 Tigers.
Louisiana three and out, Damon Wilson sack. Enough said
Missouri would pull out its starters and insert Zollers and Davis into the backfield. Davis would get a few impressive runs off the rip, showing why he was praised frequently throughout fall camp. Davis picked up some lengthy runs, but eventually Louisiana made some decent stops. Robert Meyer would trot on for a 40-yarder, where he would miss. The score remained 45-10.
Loisiana went… three-and-out. Again. Nothing of note here other than Norwood making a very nice PBU.
Marquise Davis would start the drive with two nice runs and freshman Shaun Terry caught his first pass for a nine-yard first down. The Tigers would continue to feed Davis, getting down to their own 45 to end the 3rd quarter.
Missouri would continue a long drive, mainly with runs. Davis had 10 himself, then followed it with a touchdown run. Brenden Haygood also got a few carries, with an impressive eight-yard run. Overall, a dominating drive that took roughly ten minutes off the clock. 52-10 Tigers.
Louisiana would hold the ball for a bit but wouldn’t go far. They would punt to the Tigers, pinning the Tigers at the 21.
Brett Brown would come in at quarterback, and the two-minute warning arrived. The Tigers would run the clock out.
Very impressive performance. 52-10 win!
